New York: A phase of strict action has now begun against those taking tourist visas with the intention of acquiring citizenship by giving birth to a child in America. The US Embassy in India clearly said that if the main objective of any applicant is to give birth to a child on American soil, then he will not be given a tourist visa. The embassy gave a clear warning that this would be considered an abuse of the visa system and every such file would be immediately rejected. This step is being considered as a big blow for those who considered the birth of a child as an easy way to get American citizenship.
The US Embassy wrote on social media platform X that consular officers will reject the application if they feel during the visa interview that the main purpose of the trip is to give birth to a child in the US. The statement said that such travel will not be approved under any circumstances. This open stance of the embassy shows that the American administration is now very cautious about this practice and is directly placing it in the category of visa fraud.
Amidst this strictness, President Donald Trump has increased the discussion by announcing a new plan. He has introduced a special visa program named 'Trump Gold Card,' the price of which has been kept at one million dollars. This program is designed for immigrants who have the potential to make special contributions to the United States and whom the United States wants to retain for the long term. This is being considered as a new direction of America's talent-centric immigration policy.
Trump said that many bright students from India and China return to their respective countries after completing their studies at top American universities, which is a 'shameful' situation for America. Their argument is that if a student can add value to America's economy and technology, he or she should not be forced to leave the country. The purpose of the ‘Gold Card’ scheme is to take advantage of such talents by keeping them in America.
During the meeting held at the White House, Trump said that retaining top talent in America is also beneficial for companies. He commented that it is "a gift" for a talented person to come to the United States, but they have to leave the country only because current rules do not allow them to stay. The new policy seems to be trying to change this situation.
